Master’s Program – Public Education
Principals Preparation
Approved by West Virginia Department of Education and effective for all students entering the program on or after August 15, 1999.
Required core subjects for a public school emphasis in educational administration for building principals include:
- EDLS 601 Public School Organization and Administration 3 HR
- EDLS 602 Human Resources Management 3 HR
- EDLS 603 Principles of Educational Leadership 3 HR
- EDLS 610 School Business Management 3 HR
- EDLS 611 Priniciples of Supervision 3 HR
- EDLS 612 School Law 3 HR
- EDLS 613 Planning, Evaluation, and Research for School Leaders 3 HR
- EDLS 614 School/Community Relations 3 HR
- EDLS 620 Site-Based Leadership 3 HR
- EDLS 785 Education Administration Internship 3 HR
- SCFD 600 Sociology of Education or SCFD 640 History of American Education 3 HR
- EDP 600 Educational Psychology 3 HR
- C&I 701 Curriculum Development 3 HR
Total Number of Hours: 39
Other Requirements: All candidates completing the Principals Preparation Program are required to pass the PRAXIS II (0410) Educational Leadership Administration and Supervision Test and complete the Teacher Evaluation Training Seminar provided by the West Virginia Center for Professional Development.
Master of Arts Program – Public School Emphasis – for Instructional Supervisors
Approved by West Virginia Department of Education and effective for all students entering the program on or after August 15, 1999.
Required core subjects for a public school emphasis in educational administration for instructional supervisors include:

Provisional Certification for School Superintendent
Approved by West Virginia Department of Education and effective for all students entering the program on or after July 1, 1999 .
Prequisites: M.A. in Educational Administration or equivalent with credit in each general administration area listed below:

Other Requirements: All candidates completing the Superintendent Preparation Program are required to pass the PRAXIS II (0410) Educational Leadership Administration and Supervision Test and complete the Teacher Evaluation training seminar provided by the West Virginia Center for Professional Development.

** These course focus on leadership at the central office level.
Professional Certificate for Superintendency Issued Provisionally
A professional administrative certificate endorsed for superintendent may be issued provisionally for a period of three (3) years provided:
The Applicant:
- Holds a five year professional Teaching Certificate or Vocational Certificate.
- Has completed five (5) years of successful educational experience in the public schools, including three years of classroom experience.
- Has completed the requirements for a masters degree relevant to the improvement of instruction from an institution of higher education accredited to grant the degree.
- Has completed an approved superintendent graduate program which included program objectives 1-14. This includes a six-hour profesisonal practice experience.
- Holds a salary classification at the M.A. + 15 level.
The Institution:
- Certifies that the applicant has satisfactorily completed its approved program for superintendent and has completed the minimum requirements stated in item (4) above.
- Recommends the issuance of a professional administrative certificate issued provisionally and endorsed for superintendent.
