Masters Program – Higher Education

Students accepted into the Master of Arts Program in Higher Education Administration are required to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours of course work in the program area plus12 credit hours in an appropriate support area. The support area is determined by the departmental academic advisor and the student.

A. Required core subjects for an emphasis in higher education administration (12 hours)

EDLS 652 Assessment in Higher Education (3 hrs.)

B. Elective Courses in Higher Education (12 hours)
Students may choose from the following:

EDLS 654 College Student Affairs (3 hrs.)
EDLS 655 Institutional Advancement (3 hrs.)
EDLS 685 Higher Education Practicum (3 hrs.)
EDLS 695 Independent Study (3 hrs.)
EDLS 697 Master’s Degree Research or Theory (3 hrs.)
EDLS 708 Education Administration Theory (3hrs.)
EDLS 751 Academic Affairs Administration (3 hrs.)
EDLS 752 Governance of Higher Education (3 hrs.)
EDLS 753 Adult and Continuing Education (3 hrs.)
EDLS 754 Critical Issues in American Higher Education from Historical and Policy Perspective (3 hrs.)
EDLS 755 Higher Education Law (3 hrs.)
EDLS 756 Higher Education Finance (3 hrs.)
EDLS 757 Institutional Research and Analysis (3 hrs.)
EDLS 760 Curriculum Development and Reform of Academic Programs (3hrs.)
EDLS 785 Higher Education Administration Internship (3 hrs.)

Delivery: The EDLS courses are offered by blended delivery: either by two-way audio-visual (IViN) or by eCampus with 3-4 face-to-face meetings.

C. Supportive Area (12 hours)
Students may select their courses from one academic field such as: Educational Psychology, Business Administration, Personnel Administration, Counseling Psychology, Sport Management, and Curriculum and Instruction. Those students who desire to develop a cognate in research skills, for example, may take four of the following courses:
EdP 600 Advanced Educational Psychology (3 hrs.)
EdP 610 Foundation of Educational Measurement (3 hrs.)
EdP 612 Introduction to Research (3 hrs.)
EdP 613 Statistical Methods 1 (3 hrs.)
EdP 614 Statistical Methods 2 (3 hrs.)

Those students who desire a cognate in counseling, for example, may take four of the following courses:
COUN 501 Counseling Techniques (3 hrs.)
COUN 606 Counseling Theories (3 hrs.)
COUN 609 Group Counseling (3 hrs.)
COUN 620 Lifespan Career Counseling (3 hrs.)
